Exam Deadlines Quickly Approaching

If you are planning to take the ABO Board Certification Exam in June 2011, keep these deadlines and information in mind.

April 15, 2011Last Day to Submit Initial Application for Active Candidate Status to ensure eligibility for June examination

May 15, 2011Last Day to Submit Post-Graduate Requirements to ensure eligibility for JuneExamination

May 31, 2011Last Day to Register for June Examination

Register and Pay for the Examination on the MyABO portal of www.abopt.org. Find a Prometric Test Center and schedule a test appointment on www.prometric.com/abopt. You will need to enter your ABO ID to schedule an appointment. You can also reschedule or confirm your appointment via this website.

Today, the American Board of Optometry posted the Initial Application Registration on their updated website!

How Many Points Do You Have?

We are excited to announce a unique service available to our registered members beginning May 3, 2010!  We have developed an easy-to-use, interactive Points Calculator!  In order to be eligible to take the Board Certification Examination, Active Candidates (see journal entry April 7, 2010, titled Step 1: Submit Initial Application) must attain 150 points within the 3 years prior to your exam application. Let us assist you in determining how many points you have already!

Step 1: Submit Initial Application

We guide you through the Optometry Board Certification process step by step.  Today, we outline Step 1.

Register on our website and we will email you when updates are posted.

According to the American Board of Optometry website, applications for Active Candidate status will be available online April 30, 2010.  We will provide a link to the application here. The requirements for this initial application are:

  1. Supply demographic information
  2. Submit Application Fee of $300.00
  3. Document graduation from School or College of Optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE)
  4. Document active license to practice therapeutic optometry in a State, District of Columbia, U.S. Commonwealth or Territory
  5. Affirm adherence to principles of the Optometric Oath
  6. Affirm that all supplied information is true and correct
  7. Grant permission to the American Board of Optometry to verify all credentials
  8. Authorize search of National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and Health Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB)

Upon confirmation of the application requirements, the American Board of Optometry will confer Active Candidate status for a period of one year.
